IQ. Why $5,000 for your partnership formation fee?

A. I have been going to Mazatlán of about 30+ years. I have a lot of time and effort in this project. Recently, I spent six months in Mazatlán working on what it will take to get a sailing charter business legal, only to discover that is a very, very difficult process. What I did learn was that no licenses are required to bring a “partnership” boat to Mazatlán so each owner can use it whenever they wish. Insurance and a dock/slip rental marina contract being the only items necessary. I will be finding a boat, negotiating the purchase, and overseeing any preparations necessary for the trip to Mazatlán. Also, I will be generating the partnership paperwork and making all the arrangements for the 10-year import permit.

Q. What will be the ownership entity?

A. Based on opinions and quotes for a "company" vessel to obtain the required 10 year import permit, the ownership entity will be a corporation. Not sure what state it will be registered in yet.

...so corporation is best? Not a Limited Partnership?

Yes, corporation works best. Yes, any US state.

Q. Will the car be insured? What about me driving a car in Mexico?

A. If you have a valid drivers license in California or Canada you can legally drive a vehicle plated and owned in Mexico by a Mexican National. The car will have to be owned by Roberto so he can  have insurance that will cover you when you drive it. Here is a text from Roberto's insurance agent.

Q. How will you determine if a partner is qualified to take out the boat?

A. Just tell us what your sailing experience is. Chances are you're talking to us about this because you've had a boat, have a boat or have other sailing experiences. - maybe in a sailing club. Many of of us will likely have owned boats and now want to have all the fun of boat ownership and sailing in Mexico without the hassle and expense of doing it on our own.

Q.Have you got insurance lined up?

A. We have liability insurance ready to go from a US company - Discover Baja. Working on replacement insurance.
